THE STORY
The idea for Stargirl Salon (formerly Bored Ape Salon) was born in 2021 when artist Sera first acquired her Bored Ape NFT. She saw it as a blank canvas, an opportunity to express creativity. Leveraging the unique IP rights that come with owning a Bored Ape, Sera began decorating her character. This sparked a thought: What if other holders wanted to customize their Apes but lacked the tools or artistic skills to do so themselves? From this question, her passion project took shape.
Stargirl Salon launched its main collection on OpenSea, featuring custom derivatives of Bored Apes. With input and direction from their owners, Sera created unique works of art for her clients. The process was simple: purchase a salon token NFT and redeem it for a personalized “salon appointment” to transform their character.
As the salon gained notoriety, it naturally grew beyond custom designs and began offering curated pre-made collections. These collections were known as Stargirl Salon Fashion Apes. Each collection featured a themed set of 12 characters, every piece within the set showcased a distinctive personality, brought to life through different color ways.
These ready-to-purchase designs provided collectors with an accessible way to own a piece of Sera's artwork, making it possible for those who didn’t own a Bored Ape—and were therefore unable to commission a custom piece—to still enjoy her creativity.

Sera’s passion for derivatives took another creative turn with the launch of the Stargirl Salon Dolls (2023) collection. This service allows Sera to transform BAYC or MAYC characters into adorable chibi-style illustrations in her signature cartoon aesthetic. These playful designs are perfect for stickers, emojis, and other fun applications, offering holders a charming new way to showcase their Bored Ape IP. Sera even uses her chibi character as a "sticker" design on the Faraway platform for Dookey Dash.
The Salon Dolls grew in popularity with the debut of Sera’s Otherside Wonderland series, where she creatively reimagined Otherside plots by decorating them with her own characters and those of other yacht club members. As interest in being included in her artworks grew, Sera launched this service for hire, allowing collectors to secure a spot in future Wonderland pieces and receive their chibi character in various expressive poses. Sera’s journey eventually led her deeper into the metaverse, where she brought her salon to life in Decentraland with the help of her husband, Zech3D a 3D designer. Together, they created some fun wearable designs, including some of the first women’s hairstyles available on the platform. One called 'Stargirl Pink Hair' (2021) was modeled after Sera's apes pink hair covered in golden stars, and another called 'Shroomies Hair' (2022) a brown bob style covered in white flowers with a red and white mushroom hat on top. The 'shroomies' design wearable was shared with her collectors as a gesture of gratitude for their support.
With the Bored Ape Yacht Club announcing its metaverse, Otherside, Sera set her sights on this new frontier. She has a crystal plot reserved, ready to bring Stargirl Salon to life once the platform launches.
Although not yet live in Otherside, Stargirl Salon has already been featured prominently in Bored Ape Yacht Club lore. It was included as an Easter egg in the official BAYC Sandbox build, Miami 2035: The Bored Ape Yacht Club Experience
and the salon has also appeared in the Myth Division comic series Bored Ape Seeks Yacht Club. Where BAYC 1287, Sakura has secured a place in American Apes story.
More recently, Sera expanded her wearables work to include the Faraway platform, contributing to the mobile game Dookey Dash. Here, she designed exclusive wearables, including an avatar for her original character "Sakura" and a unique vehicle for the BAKC character "Boots the Doggo" along with some other designs.
